Since the introduction of ACI, ACI had the vision of simplifiying tasks by automating network functions. This section covers the integration with Virtual Machine Managers or VMM where ACI is communicating with the respective VMM in order to automate policies created in ACI. The first integration in ACI was with VMware vSphere where ACI will dynamically push policies like vlans, vDS configuration, etc, into vCenter in a way to make it very simple for the Virtualization Team to deploy more applications. Currently ACI integrates with the following VMM:

  • Microsoft
  • OpenStack
  • Red Hat
  • VMware

ACI also integrates with Container Domains such as:

  • Cloud Foundry
  • Kubernetes
  • OpenShift

It is important to note that ACI allows users to create multiple domains within the same ACI fabric. For example, users can create a VMware domain and a Kubernetes domain. By allowing this, ACI provides the flexibility to support any type of application development.
